Jeremy D. Friedman was born and raised in St. Joseph, Michigan, a small town along the shores of Lake Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Communications along with a proficiency in Latin. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Law Cum Laude in 1997. Jeremy has been with the law firm since 1999. He is currently the Managing Director of the Commercial and Real Estate Litigation Division and in charge of the Downs Law Group Jacksonville Office in Jacksonville, Florida.
Jeremy represents a wide array of clients in both state and federal court, including both large and small companies as well as individuals throughout the state of Florida and across the country. He also has represented clients from around the world including the countries of Turkey, China, Thailand, Ghana, Romania, Canada and Spain. He has brought suit against Fortune 500, mid-size, and small closely held companies, as well as high net worth individuals. He has further brought suit against various high profile celebrities including Mickey Rourke (Defamation), Ashanti Douglas (Breach of Performance Agreement), Dan Marino (Breach of Contract), and Jason Mercier (Breach of Agency Agreement).
Jeremy’s current practice includes Commercial and Business Litigation, Real Estate Litigation, Probate Litigation, Business Torts, Defamation, Breach of Contract, Fraudulent Transfer Claims, Shareholder and Partnership Disputes, First and Third Party Insurance Claims, Real Estate Brokerage Contracts, Employment Contracts, Non-Compete Agreements, Sexual Harassment, Employment Discrimination including Gender, Race, Age, and Disability Discrimination, Landlord/Tenant Disputes, Intellectual Property Litigation, Overtime and Wage Claims, Collection Matters and Personal Injury. He has additionally engaged in appellate work in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Florida District Courts of Appeal and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Jeremy has served as lead class counsel in various nationwide and state-wide class action lawsuits including claims based on the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), the Drivers Privacy Protection Act (DPPA), the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), a claim on behalf of condominium unit owners for breach of a sales contract, and a state-wide class action claim involving Florida state sales taxes at the expiration of automobile leases. In addition, his multimillion dollar judgment obtained on behalf of a real estate brokerage company concerning a real estate commission was a case of first impression that interpreted a Florida statute that permitted real estate brokerage companies to place liens on property of their clients if their commission agreements are not honored. In addition to litigation, his practice further includes general business transactional matters including the preparation, negotiation and review of shareholder and partnership agreements, employment agreements, franchise agreements, commercial and residential leases, asset purchase agreements, and non-compete agreements.
Jeremy is an avid tennis player having received a USTA ranking in the juniors in Western Michigan and thereafter employed as an assistant teaching tennis professional at South Shore Health and Racquet Club. He additionally was a finalist in the Steven Spielberg Chesterfield Film Company Screenwriting Contest.
